About the Pub
The Ship & Mitre gets its name from a combination of the pub’s two previous names – The Flagship and The Mitre.
Before the pub was built in around 1935, the site was home to a coach-house, and reference to this (and the coach trips which ran from here) can be seen in the foyer as you enter the building.
Having undergone a few makeovers during its time, (the most notable of which was in the 1970s) the downstairs bar reflects the inside of a ship. Whilst the upstairs function room has had refurbishments over the years, the impressive Art Deco features and feel of the room remain.
The Ship & Mitre has stood the test of time as a recognised destination for a well looked after pint of quality beer. Currently a CAMRA Pub of Excellence, we have also won Pub of the Year on a number of occasions, and offer the largest selection of hand-pulled ales in Merseyside – not forgetting the range of around 200 beers (draught and bottled) is one of the largest in the North West.
